DNA

In conclusion

Sir Karl Popper

Sir Karl Popper, regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science in the 20th century, realised the dilemma that DNA posed for evolution. He wrote ...

“What makes the origin of life and of the genetic code a disturbing riddle is this: the genetic code is without any biological function unless it is translated”

“The code cannot be translated except by using certain products of its translation. This constitutes a baffling circle; a really vicious circle, it seems, for any attempt to form a model or theory of the genesis of the genetic code”

RNAP

- the photocopier

Helicase

- the unzipper

The ‘delivery service’

Without the Helicase to ‘unzip’ the DNA strands the protein recipes could never be accessed

Without the RNAP the letter sequence on the template strand could never be ‘photocopied’

DNA

“Biochemists commonly refer to DNA as a self-replicating molecule because its structural properties make it possible to generate two identical daughter molecules from the original parent. In reality, however, DNA cannot replicate on its own. DNA replication requires a myriad of proteins. The synthesis of proteins and the replication of DNA are mutually interdependent. Proteins cannot be produced without DNA, and DNA cannot be produced without protein”

Dr Fazale Rana

tRNA

Without the tRNA the amino acids would never getting to the Acceptor site on the Ribosome

R.F.

Without the Ribosome to translate the message on the mRNA, the protein could never be produced

Without the Release Factor which recognises  the termination codon, the protein would not be released from the Ribosome
