Hebron Hall

to Jarrow and

The official opening of Hebron Hall took place on Saturday 11th September, 1937. Mr J. McConway who presided over this inaugural meeting, told of how the work began in the home of Mr Tomlinson, who together with his wife, opened their home for the preaching of the Gospel and a Sunday School. At the same Mr Donald Miller brought the Durham County Gospel Tent to the locality and there was a good measure of interest in the Gospel. The Sunday School work was later transferred to the home of Mr and Mrs George Raine, before eventually being convened weekly at Hebron Hall. Records indicate that at the end of the first year the Junior section of the Sunday School had 80 in attendance, while the Seniors numbered 250!

The oversight at the commencement of the assembly was made up of four brethren - Mr Fred Lawther, Mr John Boggon, Mr Harry MacDonald (senior)  and Mr Andrew Cunningham.

ACTS 2:41-42

“Then those who gladly received His word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them, and they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers”
