Since Colin the chef is thinking of copying the recipe by hand, it’s important that he open the book at the correct place.
It’s no use opening up at page 40. Nor is it acceptable to open at page 55. He MUST locate the recipe on the CORRECT page and start copying the recipe at the STARTING point. It’s no use starting halfway down the recipe
Even when photocopying, it’s so easy to miss the top heading off, or crop the last vital paragraph!
The very same principles apply to copying the protein recipe from the DNA strand.

The ‘photocopying’ of a particular protein recipe on the DNA is to be carried out by the enzyme known as RNA polymerase [RNAP]. Having been ‘told’ that a specific protein is needed in the cell, the RNAP will look for the PROMOTER REGION that will inform it that the recipe is close at hand
